Two boats collide on Lake Mascuppic
TYNGSBOROUGH, Mass. — One person was injured in a boat collision on Lake Mascuppic on the evening of June 11.
According to the Tyngsborough Police Department, officers and fire personnel responded to the lake at approximately 7:20 p.m. Upon arrival, first responders found that the injured man had been brought back to shore by good samaritans.
The man was treated at the scene and was taken to Lowell General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Although the Massachusetts Environmental Police continue to investigate, the preliminary investigation suggests that one of the boats was rear-ended.
Tyngsborough Police Chief Shaun Woods reminds mariners that the Select Board passed a bylaw last October that “prohibits parking or beaching boats or watercraft along the shores of Lake Mascuppic.”
The purpose of the bylaw is to alleviate overcrowding at the lake. Anyone caught in violation will be subject to a $100 fine.
“Our lakes and rivers are a wonderful resource for Tyngsborough and we encourage all of our residents and visitors to use them safely this season,” said Woods. “I want to thank the Massachusetts Environmental Police for their assistance. They are excellent partners as we seek to enforce safety on the water.”
