NASHUA – The Nash Casino, New Hampshire’s largest charitable gaming venue, presented a combined $1.6 million in contributions to eight New Hampshire nonprofit organizations on May 20.

The funds were generated from a percentage of games of chance and historical horse racing machine revenues during the month of April. In March, The Nash generated an unprecedented $1.5 million, shared between eight different nonprofits, for a total of $3.2 million during the first two months.

“It’s incredibly rewarding to see the joy, gratitude and outright shock when our nonprofit partners learn just how much was raised in support of their mission,” said General Manager Eric Althaus. “We’re thrilled that during our second month of operating we exceeded our opening-month record in the amount of charitable contributions.”

The Nash presented checks to eight nonprofit beneficiaries in the following amounts:

-Community Council of Nashua (Greater Nashua Mental Health Center): $195,327

Dean Shalhoup, president of the Nashua Historical Society, said his organization is “beyond grateful” for the funds, which will not only support the organization’s ongoing mission of community education and the management of Nashua’s only two museums, it will also help finance the restoration of the 200-year-old Abbot-Spalding House, which houses their main museum.

Maureen Ryan, chief operating officer of Greater Nashua Mental Health, said GNMH will use its funds to help bridge the gap in uncompensated care, supporting many of its underfunded mental health and substance use disorder treatment services.

“We never turn anyone away due to lack of insurance or inability to pay for services,” said Ryan. “This allows us to continue our mission in the community and support critical mental health and substance use disorder services, including specialized programs such as our Deaf Services and Assertive Community Treatment teams.”

Under state law, 35 percent of games of chance revenues, and 8.75 percent of Historical Horse Racing machine revenues are set aside for two nonprofits assigned to each week of gaming. The combined revenues are split evenly between the two nonprofits. In addition, 10 percent of games of chance and 16.5 percent of HHR revenues are contributed to the state Education Trust Fund. In April, The Nash sent $1.3 million to the state fund.
