FRAMINGHAM, Mass. – New England Voices in Harmony, the Nashua-based championship a cappella women’s chorus, returned from Harmony, Inc.’s Area Two Convention and Contests in Framingham, Mass., last month, winning first place in a field of choruses from all of New England and Quebec.

Additionally, one of the chorus quartets, Intonations, won the first-place gold ribbon.

Voices and Intonations have now accrued more than enough points in the music, singing and presentation categories to qualify to sing at Harmony Inc.’s International Convention and Contests, to be held this November in Hershey, Penn. The chorus of 35 women from New Hampshire and Massachusetts, won singing two songs: “Feeling Good” from the Broadway show, The Roar of the Greasepaint and “Ripple” from the film Spirited.

Intonations features chorus members Katrine Dickau of Hollis singing tenor and Deanna Dean of Bedford, singing bass. The quartet sang “How Lucky You Are” and “When Day Is Done.”

Additionally, another chorus quartet, “High Gear” came in second and has also garnered enough points to compete at the international level. They include Christina Tramack singing lead, and Jen Selby, baritone, both of Nashua; Deb Green of Merrimack singing bass and tenor Ari Schmidt of Billerica, Mass.

New England Voices in Harmony is directed by Renée Tramack of Nashua who has been singing/directing or coaching with Harmony, Inc. for multiple years. She has directed several other choruses in New England and Virginia before her move to Nashua. She sings bass in Harmony, Inc.’s gold medal winning international quartets, Showcase and Taken 4 Granite. As director of the first-place chorus, she won the Guiding Hands Award. Additionally, the chorus won the Area Two Trophy.

Harmony, Inc. is an international, non-profit, educational singing organization for women. New England Voices in Harmony, with performing members of all ages, rehearses every Tuesday night from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Nashua Senior Center, 70 Temple St. The chorus is always looking for new members. The ability to read music, while helpful, is not necessary. However, prospective members are eventually required to pass an audition. For more information, visit www.newenglandvoicesinharmony.org.
