NASHUA – SLC Group Holdings recently donated $50,000 to Operation Delta Dog to continue its support for the organization’s mission of rescuing and training shelter dogs as specialized service companions for veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.
During the April 23 event, OPDD Executive Director Charlotte Troddyn presented a plaque to SLC Founder and CEO Sandra Cleary in recognition of her company’s “outstanding steadfast support as a true ally and ambassador for veterans and dogs alike.”
“Sandy doesn’t just support the mission–she lives it,” said Troddyn. “Her generosity, energy and passion have made a significant impact on the lives of many veterans and their companions. We’re honored to recognize her as our one and only Legacy 5 Star Sponsor.”
Vietnam War veteran Stephen Sennott of Pepperell, Mass. was also on hand with his service dog, Pippin. During the ceremony, Sennott said OPDD and Pippin have changed his life.
“This is exactly why we support the work–to transform the lives of struggling veterans, while providing dogs in need of a home with a second chance,” said Cleary.
However, there are still more than 40 Granite State veterans who die each year to mental health struggles that only a few others may know about.
Although service dogs can bring veterans back from the darkest depths of despair, the wait time for a service dog can be years long and cost upwards of $40,000–which is out of reach for most veterans.
“Partners like Sandy are more critical than ever as we strive to respond to an emerging veteran mental health crisis in our communities.” said OPDD Development Director Julia D’Orazio. “Her continued support enables us to provide immediate assistance to every veteran asking for our help, at no cost. We are so grateful to have her in our corner.”
