AMHERST – A third-alarm fire broke out at 31 Eastern Ave. just after 8 p.m. on April 18.
Upon arrival, firefighters found the home to be completely engulfed, prompting them to transmit second and third alarms.
It took more than an hour to bring the fire under control and firefighters were still on the scene at 10:30 p.m.
According to the Amherst Fire Department, the blaze was accelerated by “hoarding conditions” in the home. Smaller structures to the left of the home were completely destroyed.
One resident was treated by paramedics after being rescued by a neighbor.
Mutual aid was provided by firefighters from Brookline, Manchester, Hollis, Merrimack, Milford, New Boston, Mont Vernon, Wilton, Nashua and Bedford.
The cause remains under investigation.
