YMCA of Greater Nashua observes National Child Abuse Prevention Month with Five Days of Action initiative

By Staff | Apr 20, 2025

NASHUA — In recognition of National Child Abuse Prevention Month, the YMCA of Greater Nashua is reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding children by participating in the nationwide Five Days of Action campaign from April 21-25.

This week-long initiative aims to heighten awareness and inspire proactive measures among adults and organizations to protect children from sexual abuse.

The Five Days of Action emphasizes the critical steps of Know. See. Respond.

-Know: Understanding the facts about child sexual abuse is essential for prevention.

-See: Recognizing the signs of abuse and being vigilant in daily interactions can help identify potential issues.

-Respond: Taking appropriate action when abuse is suspected ensures the safety and well-being of children.

Throughout the week, the YMCA will share valuable resources and information on its social media profiles to educate the community on preventing child sexual abuse. These resources are designed to empower parents, caregivers and residents with the knowledge and tools necessary to create safer environments for children.

“The children of our region have the right to a happy and safe childhood, and it’s our responsibility as adults and organizations to stand up to protect that right,” said Jennifer Colangelo, chief human resources officer for the YMCA of Greater Nashua. “By joining the ‘Five Days of Action’ campaign, we hope to inspire other organizations and community members to create safe spaces that protect children from sexual abuse.”

As a leading nonprofit dedicated to youth development, the YMCA of Greater Nashua integrates child protection measures into its daily operations and programming. The organization adheres to strict policies and procedures to ensure the safety of all children in its care. By participating in the Five Days of Action, the YMCA underscores its ongoing commitment to child abuse prevention and encourages the entire community to join in this vital effort.
