Local leaders to gather for discussions on digital inclusion and access
NASHUA — The United Way of Greater Nashua, in collaboration with the Greater Nashua Digital Inclusion Coalition, will be hosting the Overcoming Digital Barriers in Greater Nashua Summit on March 21.
The inaugural event will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Nashua Community College, 505 Amherst St.
It will bring together nonprofit professionals, small business leaders and technology advocates to discuss solutions for bridging the digital divide in the Greater Nashua region. The summit is made possible through the dedicated efforts of the Adult Learning Center and Nashua Community College, who are serving as lead planners and hosts, and through the generous sponsorship of Comcast.
The event will feature Charlie French, a leader in community development, as the keynote speaker. French has been instrumental in shaping the New Hampshire Digital Equity Plan, which aims to ensure that all individuals–regardless of income, location, language or ability–have the technology, internet access, and skills necessary to fully participate in today’s digital world. The plan focuses on expanding affordable internet access, increasing the availability of digital devices, and providing training programs to underserved populations, including older adults, individuals with disabilities and non-English speakers.
In southern New Hampshire, digital barriers continue to limit opportunities for many residents. Although 93 percent of the state has broadband coverage, more than 36,000 locations remain unserved or underserved, particularly in rural areas. Additionally, affordability remains a major challenge, as many households cannot afford broadband even when infrastructure is available.
Beyond Internet access, digital literacy gaps prevent individuals from fully participating in the modern economy. Key groups facing challenges include older adults, veterans, racial and ethnic minorities, English learners, and individuals with disabilities. The lack of access to devices, reliable internet, and digital skills training puts these populations at a significant disadvantage.
Lunch will be provided and space is limited. RSVP at https://tinyurl.com/DigitalBarriers2025.
