Nashua teen accused of firing gun during fight

NASHUA – Jean Cortez, 18, of Nashua, was taken into custody on Feb. 18 in connection with a physical altercation that allegedly happened four days earlier.
According to the Nashua Police Department, officers responded to Ash Street on Feb. 14 for a report of shots fired.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers learned that a physical altercation had broken out between a group of individuals and that a gun was allegedly fired during the confrontation. A juvenile, who was also involved in the fight, was reportedly hit by gunfire and sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Cortez has been charged with first degree assault with a deadly weapon and reckless conduct with a deadly weapon.
He was held on preventative detention and was scheduled to be arraigned in Nashua District Court on Feb. 18.
Under state law, if convicted, Cortez could face up to 27 years in prison, up to five years probation and up to $8,000 in fines.
