NASHUA – The Nashua Garden Club invites residents to learn about groundcovers and their role in conservation and horticultural management.

The program, Groundcovers: What are They and How to Use Them, will be presented by Lifetime Master Gardener Kathie Skinner. The event will take place at 7 p.m. on March 5 at the First Baptist Church, 121 Manchester St.

Skinner, a retired educator of more than 40 years, has combined her passions for gardening and education. She has held positions relating to education in the Massachusetts Master Gardeners Association. She also continues to be involved in general education at the state and national levels as she conducts policy research and writing for various organizations.

The March 5 program will discuss groundcovers, including what they are and how to use them in gardens and yards. Skinner will illustrate how the definition for “groundcover” is broader than most people realize and will address the advantages of using these plants to conserve water, keep weeds at bay and create plant communities. Attendees will hear examples of perennials and shrubs that may also be used for groundcovers in sun, shade or partial sun/shade environments.
