NASHUA – Alfred Williams, president of River Valley Community College, has taken the helm as interim president of Nashua Community College following the death of longtime President Lucille Jordan in December 2024.
Williams said it was “an honor” to be tapped as the school’s interim president, adding that Jordan was on the search committee that chose him to lead River Valley.
“My role is to provide a bridge to the next president,” he said.
Williams was chosen by the Board of Trustees of the Community College System of New Hampshire in accordance with state law.
“I appreciate President Williams’ willingness to take on this additional leadership role while we work through the search process,” said CCSNH Chancellor Mark Rubinstein. “The level of coordination and collaboration among our colleges supports this temporary arrangement, as we share infrastructure, policies and practices at campuses across the state.”
Williams said he is at NCC two days a week and at River Valley two days a week.
“I have to handle both at the same time,” he said.
Williams has more than 20 years of experience in higher education with a focus on guiding students through the program without inundating them with loans.
Before taking the helm at River Valley in 2018, Williams was the dean of Academic Affairs and Student Services at Quinebaug Valley Community College in Connecticut. During that time, the graduation rate at Quinebaug Valley increased by 70 percent.
Williams holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Cornell University and a Juris Doctorate for the University of Illinois College of Law.
Search firm RPA, Inc. has been retained to find a permanent successor at NCC. The final decision is expected to be made by July 1.
