NASHUA – Just 24 hours removed from the joy of Christmas morning, a Nashua couple received the ultimate gift with the birth of their daughter — right there in their bathroom.

Because of privacy laws, the names of the mother, father and baby could not be released.

Paramedic Roger Chauvette of American Medical Response Southern New Hampshire said the 911 call came in at approximately 9:47 a.m. on Dec. 26, 2024 about a woman experiencing “pregnancy complications.”

Chauvette said Nashua firefighters were already on the scene when he and his team arrived. By that time, the baby had started crowning meaning there was no time to get to the hospital.

“We knew we would be delivering right there,” said Chauvette, adding that this was his fifth home delivery.

According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, less than one percent of pregnant women are unable to make it to the hospital and end up giving birth at home.

With no pain medication available, all paramedics could do was put a pillow behind the mother’s head and give her a blanket.

“She was a trooper, she was incredible, she did all the work,” said Chauvette.

Five minutes later, the baby was born.

“It was that quick,” said Chauvette.

He remained at the home for 45 minutes until the mother and baby were taken to Southern New Hampshire Medical Center.

Despite the monumental stress of delivering a baby with limited medical supplies, Chauvette said it is still a rewarding experience.

“It’s very comforting to know that you just brought another life into the world,” he said.
