NASHUA – Just before 3 p.m. on Nov. 26, State Police responded to a traffic collision on Circumferential Highway in which a 2014 GMC Sierra pickup truck had gone off the road and into the freezing Merrimack River.
According to the preliminary investigation, the driver, 30-year-old Danielle Melanson of Merrimack, collided with another vehicle while changing lanes on the Sagamore Bridge, which connects Hudson and Nashua.
The force of the impact caused Melanson’s vehicle to go over the guardrail and roll down the embankment before landing right-side up in the river.
Although the vehicle was partially submerged, police said Melanson was able to get out on her own. She was taken to Southern New Hampshire Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
The westbound side of the bridge remained closed while the pick up truck was hoisted from the water.
The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact Trooper Shane Mason at 603-223-4381 or at shane.p.mason@dos.nh.gov.
