United Way calling for digital navigators and community partners
NASHUA — The United Way of Greater Nashua recently announced the launch of Tech Help United, a new initiative aimed at improving digital literacy across our community.
This program is designed to help individuals who struggle with technology gain essential digital skills, enabling them to access vital services, connect with loved ones and thrive in today’s technology-driven world.
The development of Tech Help United was made possible through the Microsoft TechSpark Fellowship, held by Sara Ceaser, director of Volunteer and Community Engagement at the United Way of Greater Nashua. This fellowship enabled the United Way to research the digital equity needs of Greater Nashua and develop a program that addresses the specific barriers faced by underserved populations.
“The TechSpark Fellowship gave us the opportunity to dig deep into the digital equity challenges in our community,” said Ceaser. “We were able to design Tech Help United as a solution that not only helps individuals today but also builds long-term digital resilience in Greater Nashua.”
To make Tech Help United successful, the program is calling for volunteer digital navigators to join the effort. Digital navigators will work directly with individuals who need assistance with tasks like setting up devices, navigating websites, accessing online services, and using email and other communication tools. No advanced tech knowledge is needed, as full training will be provided–just a desire to help others.
“Our digital navigators will be at the heart of this program,” said Ceaser. “Their support will make a real difference in breaking down the barriers that keep people from participating fully in the digital world.”
In addition to volunteers, Tech Help United is seeking local agencies, community centers and faith communities to serve as host sites where digital help can be provided. By becoming a host location, organizations can offer a welcoming space for residents to get the digital support they need.
Faith communities and organizations that serve seniors, low-income individuals, or others facing digital challenges are especially encouraged to partner with us. Becoming a host site is an impactful way to support your community and ensure more people have access to essential digital resources.
The Microsoft TechSpark Fellowship has been instrumental in shaping the vision and structure of Tech Help United. Through the fellowship, United Way conducted extensive research into the digital needs of Greater Nashua, allowing the program to address gaps in access and create a support system that will empower individuals across the community.
This fellowship reflects Microsoft’s commitment to fostering digital equity, and Tech Help United is a direct result of that investment in our region.
