More than 60 residents displaced by Bluestone Drive fire

NASHUA – Sixty-five residents were forced from their apartments when a two-alarm blaze broke out at 74 Bluestone Dr. just before 2 a.m. on July 16.
According to Nashua Fire Rescue, Engine 3 of the Spit Brook Road Fire Station was first on scene and found smoke and fire coming from the three-story building.
As other engine and ladder companies arrived, firefighters knocked down flames on the second and third floors as well as the attic. Power saws were also used to ventilate the roof.
The fire was brought under control within one hour. A search of the building confirmed that all residents, including 10 cats, got out safely.
However, 29 of the building’s 36 units were either damaged or destroyed. The displaced residents are receiving assistance from the Red Cross of Northern New England.
Two firefighters were injured while battling the flames. One was treated at the scene while the other was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital.
Additional information was not available as the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
