NASHUA – As World War II grows farther away, an upcoming exhibit is bringing to life stories of Nashuans who experienced the conflict on June 14 at the Nashua Historical Society.

Combining artifacts, photographs and extensive research alongside a new documentary, this exhibit explores the connection between the home front and the war front, with an emphasis on Nashua’s role in the global war.

“World War II was not only a global event, it was local all over the world,” said Collection Technician Sarah Jauris.

Objects on display will include uniforms, photographs, letters, newspapers and other World War II memorabilia once belonging to people living in Nashua during World War II. A documentary will accompany the exhibit, in which people of the Greater Nashua area relate their personal or family experiences on the home front, the war front and the Holocaust. The exhibit and documentary together tell the stories of the people of Nashua, past and present, of their contributions to the war effort, and of the ways in which the war affected their lives.

The exhibit, World War II in Nashua: The Home Front and Beyond, will open with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 5:30 p.m. on June 14 at the Nashua Historical Society’s Florence H. Speare Memorial Museum, 5 Abbott St. A lecture about Nashuans who served in World War II will follow at 10 a.m. on June 15. The documentary, At Home and Abroad: Nashua and World War II, will premiere at the Nashua Historical Society’s Florence H. Speare Memorial Museum on June 22. All events are free and open to the public.
