NASHUA – In celebration of National Volunteer Week, the Nashua Mayor’s Volunteer Recognition Committee recently announced the opening of nominations for this year’s Gate City Light Award.

This annual accolade shines a spotlight on Nashua organizations and their dedicated volunteers who embody the spirit of community service and have made significant impacts on the lives of Nashua residents.

“Serving as a beacon of hope and compassion, the Gate City Light Award recognizes the selfless efforts of Nashua’s volunteers and organizations who work tirelessly to uplift our community,” said Committee Chairwoman Sara Ceaser. “We invite everyone to participate in this celebration of service by nominating their favorite Nashua nonprofit and sharing their inspiring stories.”

Nominations will be accepted until April 27. Individuals passionate about a nonprofit organization based in Nashua or serving the Nashua community are encouraged to participate by filling out a brief survey available at https://tinyurl.com/GateCityLight2024.

Respondents will have the opportunity to share anecdotes about their positive experiences with the organization they are nominating, and explain why they choose to support it, whether as volunteers, advocates, or donors. The information gathered will help the award-granting committee make informed decisions.

Previous winners of the Gate City Light Award within the past five years, including St. Joseph Hospital, United Way of Greater Nashua, End 68 Hours of Hunger and the Nashua Soup Kitchen and Shelter, are not eligible for nomination this year. Only organizations located in or serving the people of Nashua are eligible for consideration.

The award will be presented at the Board of Aldermen meeting on May 21, marking a special occasion to honor the exceptional contributions of Nashua’s unsung heroes.

The Gate City Light Award honors Nashua organizations and their volunteers for their outstanding contributions to the community. Recipients exemplify dedication, compassion, and service, making a meaningful difference in the lives of Nashua residents.
