MERRIMACK — An unidentified male suspect took police on a three-hour chase after allegedly refusing to stop for a traffic violation just before noon on March 17.

According to Merrimack Police, the driver turned into the Fidelity complex on Contra Way where he got out of the vehicle and fled on foot.

Merrimack Police had discovered that the license plates did not match the vehicle he was driving. Officers also learned that the vehicle itself was reported stolen out of Nashua prompting them to notify Nashua Police.

Officers also set up a perimeter around the Fidelity complex and called for assistance from the State Police. With state troopers monitoring highway traffic, Merrimack Police and the Nashua Police K9 Unit were able to search for the suspect on foot.

A short time later, the Nashua Police canine picked up a scent and led officers towards Thornton Road West.

Using a thermal imaging drone and a helicopter, State Police reportedly found the suspect in the woods off Thornton Road West.

According to police, the suspect had approached a residence and asked the homeowner if he could use the telephone. The resident, who was aware of the search, immediately contacted authorities.

After being chased for three hours, the suspect was soaked and wearing only one shoe. According to police, he was taken into custody without resistance.

It remains unclear what charges the man will be facing.
