United Way to host Home Repair Help discussion at April Coffee and Causes

By Staff | Mar 13, 2024

NASHUA – The United Way of Greater Nashua recently announced that its next Coffee and Causes talk, Home Repair Help, will be held on April 5 at 10:30 a.m. at the Nashua Senior Activity Center at 70 Temple St.

The event will feature presentations from the Greater Nashua Habitat for Humanity and the RSVP FixIt program, shedding light on how both organizations extend vital home repair assistance to low to moderate-income homeowners in the Greater Nashua area.

The Greater Nashua Habitat for Humanity focuses on addressing health and safety concerns through its Critical Home Repair program. By collaborating with volunteer repair crews, the program aids homeowners struggling to maintain their residences due to age, disability or other family circumstances. Eligible repairs may include the installation of handrails or grab bars, construction of handicap accessible ramps, structural safety improvements, weatherization, and more. The organization endeavors to minimize costs for families, often covering a significant portion through internal grants and fundraising efforts.

The FixIt program, operating under the umbrella of AmeriCorps and a part of the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, offers volunteer support to senior and disabled homeowners in Hillsborough County. Providing assistance with minor home repairs, including plumbing, carpentry, electrical work and other safety-related tasks, FixIt aims to enhance the safety and accessibility of homes, enabling residents to remain comfortably in their residences.

“We are thrilled to host this Coffee and Causes event focused on Home Repair Help, where attendees can learn about the critical work being done by Greater Nashua Habitat for Humanity and the RSVP FixIt program,” said Sara Ceaser, director of Volunteer and Community Engagement at United Way of Greater Nashua. “These organizations play a vital role in ensuring that individuals and families in our community have safe and functional living spaces.”
