HOLLIS – Master Patrol Officer Michael Trapani of the Hollis Police Department was recently named the department’s Employee of the Year for 2023.

Chief Joseph Hoebeke said Trapani was one of five police employees that were nominated to receive this honor.

“Mike has established himself as a dedicated and hard-working policing professional,” said Hoebeke, adding that Trapani has been with the department since December 2019. “He volunteers for almost anything and everything.”

Hoebeke said one of Trapani’s recent successes was establishing a drone program.

“He committed himself to this project and his hard work resulted in acquiring a drone and support products, creating a suitable policy and the beginnings of an official sUAS (Small Unmanned Aircraft System) Unit,” said Hoebeke. “Mike’s enthusiasm and thoroughness showed in his research, self-education and advocacy for obtaining and using a drone.”

Yet, while launching the drone program, Trapani never lost sight of his regular responsibilities to the department.

“Mike continues to produce solid self-initiated activities and attention to all those duties incumbent upon a patrol officer,” said Hoebeke. “Mike should be filled with an immense sense of pride in knowing that all the members of the Hollis Police Department and the Hollis Communications Center hold him in such high regard.”

A 2012 graduate of the University of Massachusetts Lowell, Trapani has served in the Massachusetts Army National Guard since 2014 and is currently a first lieutenant in the 101st Field Artillery Regiment.
