Early morning chemical explosion at Worthen Industries

NASHUA – Emergency crews responded to Worthen Industries on East Spit Brook Road for a report of a chemical explosion on the morning of Nov. 30 that sent one employee to the hospital.

According to Nashua Fire Rescue, the explosion, which occurred at 6:30 a.m., was believed to be caused by Methyl Ethyl Keytone.

Upon arrival, firefighters were informed by the plant manager that the fire caused by the explosion had been put out and that the facility was evacuated. Firefighters inspected the inside of the buildking to ensure that the fire was extinguished.

One Worthen employee was taken to Southern New Hampshire Medical Center to be treated for a burn injury. The individual’s condition and identity have not been released.

The incident was brought under control by 7:30 a.m.

Additional information was not available as the incident remains under investigation.
