ANDOVER, Mass. – After clinging to life for five days, Valentina Campos, 1, of Nashua, passed away from injuries she sustained when the vehicle she was in hit a tree on the side of Interstate 495 on Nov. 24.

According to Massachusetts State Police, emergency crews responded to the scene at 3:40 a.m. The vehicle, a 2017 Toyota Camry, was driven by Valentina’s mother, April Campos, 33, of Nashua.

The preliminary investigation suggested that Campos may have been distracted and subsequently lost control of the vehicle. The Camry then reportedly went off the highway and into a grass median before careening down an embankment and slamming into a tree.

According to her younger sister, Campos sustained two broken ribs and a broken knee in the crash. Both she and Valentina were taken to Lawrence General Hospital. However, because of the extent of her injuries, Valentina was transferred by MedFlight to a Boston hospital where she passed away on Nov. 29.

The Campos family has set up a GoFundMe page, which has raised $7,030 as of Nov. 30. Online donations can be made at https://www.gofundme.com/f/hq623z-baby-gracie.

No additional information is available as the crash remains under investigation.
