NASHUA – Barton Tibando, 53, of Nashua, was taken into custody on Sept. 11 in connection with an alleged armed robbery and carjacking.

According to police, officers responded to 58 Temple St. after receiving a report that the driver of a Chrysler Town and Country was threatened with a firearm and that the minivan had been stolen.

The vehicle was later located in Manchester at 1:40 p.m.; however, Tibando refused to stop for Manchester Police and engaged officers in a high-speed pursuit. In addition to running several red lights, Tibando reportedly struck two vehicles during the chase. No injuries were reported.

Police said Tibando lost control of the minivan after hitting the second car and the four granite barriers outside the Manchester Police Department. The vehicle ultimately came to a stop in the department’s visitor parking lot. Police reportedly used a Taser as Tibando refused to obey the officers’ commands.

As the investigation continued, detectives alleged that Tibando had committed the armed robbery on Temple Street in Nashua.

Tibando was transferred to Nashua Police and was held on preventative detention. He was arraigned at the Hillsborough County Superior Court South on Sept. 12.

In addition to armed robbery, Tibando has been charged with reckless conduct with a deadly weapon, receiving stolen property, possession of a controlled drug, conduct after an accident, driving after revocation/suspension, disobeying an officer, resisting arrest and criminal mischief.

Under state law, if convicted, Tibando faces up to 59 years in prison and up to $53,900 in fines.
