NASHUA – So far without an opponent in this year’s election, Tyler Gouveia is looking forward to representing Ward 1 for another two years on the Board of Aldermen.

“Serving our neighborhood in this capacity has been an absolute privilege that I am deeply committed to,” he said. “The past two years have shown me the immense impact that dedicated leadership can have on our community and I believe there is still a lot more work to be done.”

Gouveia said one of the greatest concerns among Ward 1 residents is the traffic on Broad Street from the Nashua Mall Plaza to the Hollis town line.

“This has been neglected for too long and it is time we find the funds to study and fix this traffic issue,” he said.

Looking at Nashua as a whole, Gouveia said property tax is the top concern among residents.

“As a young professional and homeowner looking to raise a family in Nashua, it is imperative we stay affordable for the next generation,” he said. “I have never had an issue going against the grain to represent our families by ensuring city spending is on time and on budget.”

Reflecting on the past two years, Gouveia said the ongoing revitalization of Navaho Park has been one of his greatest accomplishments.

“This once heavily-used ball field has been out of use for nearly 20 years and now I am in the process of working with a local non-profit, ReGenerative Roots, to transform it into a community garden,” he said.

Gouveia also authored the expansion of the city’s Elderly Tax Exemption, which he said demonstrates his “personal, unwavering commitment to caring for those who have cared for us.”

Unlike the 2021 race, Gouveia believes Nashua residents are ready to leave “unnecessary divisions” in the past.

“I think a lot of people are realizing that they don’t have to argue with their neighbor over general disagreements about national policy and would rather put their efforts and focus towards local issues,” he said. “Folks are very excited to be engaged in our community and from what I have seen, Ward 1 is leading the way for the rest of Nashua.”

Although he is unopposed at this time, Gouveia said he is taking nothing for granted and will still strive to earn every vote in Ward 1.

“My priorities for the next two years remain unwavering, I will continue to work diligently to advance community revitalization efforts and advocate for responsible city spending,” he said. “I will continue to champion our first responders to ensure we stay ranked as the second safest city in the country. Above all, I will continue putting Ward 1 first to ensure that our community remains an exceptional place to raise a family.”

Gouveia also spoke about being the youngest alderman on the current board.

“I bring unique and fresh ideas from a different generation to City Hall,” he said. “Our city is at a pivotal point and I am determined to continue rolling up my sleeves and delivering for the taxpayers of Nashua.”

The candidate filing period for this year’s election begins on Aug. 29 and ends on Sept. 8.
