HUDSON – Recent Plymouth State University (PSU) graduate Alyssa Badolato of Hudson was named the first-ever recipient of the American Marketing Association (AMA) Boston Collegiate Scholarship. This award is granted on a competitive basis to only one marketing student across all New England colleges and universities.

“I am humbled and honored to be selected for this prestigious scholarship,” Badolato said. “I am immensely grateful to Plymouth State and to my marketing professors for their support and for fostering a learning environment that empowers students like me to reach higher and learn by doing.”

The purpose of the scholarship is to promote diversity and inclusivity in the marketing industry and to provide financial support to students who have demonstrated exceptional academic performance, leadership and involvement in the marketing community.

“Alyssa’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence and her passion for marketing have undoubtedly set Alyssa apart from a pool of highly talented individuals,” said AMA Boston President Robert Cargill. “By being selected, Alyssa has not only distinguished herself as a future leader in the industry but she has also gained invaluable support to further her education journey.”

Emilee Cocuzzo, vice president of AMA Boston, agreed.

“The scholarship committee was highly impressed by her achievements and recognized the immense potential she possesses,” she said.

Badolato was recognized for her work, during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, with the Truth Initiative, a nonprofit that builds awareness of the risks of tobacco use. Badolato was credited for the Truth Initiative’s multiple appearances on NBC News, ABC’s Good Morning America and Cheddar News.

“Alyssa showed great leadership in the Marketing program at PSU and beyond,” said Assistant Marketing Professor Dr. Raj Sachdev. “This award is a testament to Alyssa’s talent and hard work, as well as the many opportunities for marketing students to get involved in various organizations and to learn with hands-on experience at PSU.”

When Badolato transferred to PSU in 2020, she joined the Marketing Association of Plymouth State Club, which is a campus chapter of the AMA, and soon took charge of the club’s social media. Her new approach and promotional efforts resulted in a significant increase in followers and engagement across all social media platforms.

Badolato was also part of the PSU Professional Sales Institute, interned for the college’s Marketing and Communications Department, contributed to the PSU Finance Club and worked with the school’s Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access Center.

Badolato will be starting her career at Quickbase, a Boston-based software company. She will enroll in a Master’s program for the 2024-2025 school year and aspires to continue her education and earn a Doctorate in Business Administration with a concentration in marketing and marketplace psychology.

The AMA Boston Collegiate Scholarship is a prestigious opportunity for a graduating senior marketing student dedicated to pursuing a career in the field of marketing. The scholarship is committed to promoting diversity and inclusivity in the marketing industry. The $500 scholarship provides financial support to students who have demonstrated exceptional academic performance, leadership, and involvement in the marketing community.
