NASHUA — Paige Mello scored with 19.7 seconds left to lift the No.3 Hollis Brookline High School girls to the NHIAA Division II state lacrosse championship, 12-11 over top seed Hanover Tuesday night at Stellos Stadium.

It was the Cavaliers first girls lacrosse title, after the Cavaliers had lost to Portsmouth the previous two seasons in the finals.

This one was close throughout, although Hanover never led, and trailed 11-9 before tying the game at 11 on a goal by Maggie Higgins with 2:24 left.

The Bears won the ensuing draw, missed on one shot and HB’s Bella Haytayan caused a turnover to give the Cavaliers the ball back in the final minute. After HB took the lead, Hanover never got a shot off to give the Cavs, who finished the season 16-4, their first title.
