DOS statement on the death of Goffstown Fire Captain Steven Tower

CONCORD – Department of Safety Commissioner Robert L. Quinn, Division of Fire Standards and Training and Emergency Medical Services Director Deborah A. Pendergast, and Goffstown Fire Chief Brian H. Allard announce the passing of Fire Captain Steven W. Tower, age 54.

At approximately 1 p.m. Monday, Captain Tower, a member of the Goffstown Fire Department, became ill after completing the Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) on the campus of the New Hampshire Fire Academy in Concord.

On-scene firefighters and paramedics immediately rendered aid and a Concord Fire Department ambulance transported him to Concord Hospital, where he later died.

The Department of Safety extends its heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Captain Tower.

The N.H. Division of Fire Safety, Office of the State Fire Marshal is investigating the death. Additional information will be released when it becomes available.
