Firefighters from Amherst and several surrounding towns are battling a two-alarm fire at a residence on Holly Hill Road this afternoon.

The fire, initially reported as a basement fire, broke out around 1 p.m. at the residence, which is a 1 1/2-story building with an attached garage.

A second alarm was struck shortly after crews arrived, bringing extra manpower and mutual aid assistance to the scene. An unconfirmed report stated a third alarm was sounded.
