Day 7

Today was a traveling day. We took a quick plane ride to the Big Island and rode to our hotel. On the ride there, we stopped and looked at the lava, which literally consumed the roads and houses. It was really sad. We learned that many homes were destroyed, along with businesses. Most people have not recovered yet.

Patrick Martin, a senior at Nashua High School South said, “I learned a lot. Apparently, they bulldoze the lava after it is dried up, and there’s still magma flowing underneath the hardened lava, below sea level. It made me thankful to live in a place where there aren’t many natural disasters.”

Tomorrow, we will be snorkeling in the lagoon and swimming with manta rays. We are so excited to continue our journey on a different island.
