Granite Shield busts 151 statewide; 29 in Nashua
NASHUA – Nashua police brought in 29 people suspected of dealing drugs or other crimes as part of the statewide Granite Shield operation executed this week.
Police in cities and towns served by the Granite Shield grants to help combat the opioid epidemic all took part, along with New Hampshire State Police, as well as federal agents. Nashua Police Lt. Brian Kenney said the grants have allowed Nashua to target drug dealers with investigations that lead to arrests.
“It’s a great result for us, but it also reminds us that, as safe as Nashua is, drugs are still an issue,” Kenney said.
Around the state, 151 people were arrested as part of the operation, and police seized more than 551 grams of heroin and fentanyl – about 18,000 doses with a street value of more than $22,000 –
24 weapons, and $37,000 in cash.
“New Hampshire is safer today because of this months-long cooperative effort between state, local and federal partners,”
said New Hampshire State Police Col. Christopher Wagner.
Nashua got help from the FBI and the DEA to help bring in the suspects tied to the investigations, Kenney said. While officers are finding cocaine, crack cocaine, and methamphetamines, the target remains heroin and especially fentanyl, Kenney said. Fentanyl, a deadly synthetic opioid, is showing up as a predominant drug in the city,
Kenney said.
