CONCORD – With his sentencing late last week to 63 months in federal prison, Nashua resident George Cruz became the fifth member of an alleged 10-man drug distribution ring to learn the length of his term behind bars.

Cruz, 30, whose last known address is 79 Elm St. in Nashua, had pleaded guilty in December to charges accusing him of participating in a conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine in the Nashua area, U.S. Attorney Scott W. Murray said at the time.

Cruz is one of 10 defendants charged in the conspiracy, seven of whom agreed to plead guilty over the past several months.

Five of them, including Cruz, have been sentenced. They include Melvin Nooks Jr., sentenced to 120 months; Donald Johnson, 42 months; Mallory Nooks, 60 months; and Marvin Morrison, 15 months.

All are federal prison sentences.

Still awaiting sentencing are William Greenleaf, age and address unavailable, and Isaiah Kinard, 30, of Manchester. They are scheduled to be sentenced in early November.

The three other defendants charged in the case are awaiting trial, according to Murray.

“With today’s sentence, George Cruz became the fifth member of this drug trafficking organization to be held accountable for pumping illegal narcotics like crack cocaine into the neighborhoods of Nashua,” Murray said in a statement.

He said Cruz is accused of “actively selling drugs to customers for the organization.”
