It should be awhile yet before we see this amount of snow – hopefully, quite awhile – but even when we do experience the first significant snowfall of the 2022-23 season, it’s highly unlikely we’ll come across a scene such as this. Taken in the 1930s, the photo depicts a two-horse team pulling a sledge (a vehicle on runners for conveying cargo or passengers over snow or ice, often pulled by draft animals), loaded with snow, evidently part of a snow-removal operation taking place in the rear of this multi-unit tenement near the corner of Main and Canal streets. The Whiting Block, at Main and Franklin streets, can be seen in the background. The tenement appears to be situated about where Dunkin’ (formerly Dunkin’ Donuts) is today.
