Greater Nashua Flashback
(Courtesy photo) This vintage photo is of Spence Dry Goods Company, the popular late 19th- and early 20th-century store that carried all kinds of clothing and accessories for men, women and children, along with various household goods and specialty items back in the day. The store occupied the first floor of the Noyes Block at 157-159 Main St., which is now the site of Bank of America. The photo surfaced during recent research regarding the history of Jeannotte's Market, as Henry Jeannotte's first wife, Clara Morin, worked at Spence's when she and Henry married in 1894. Clara was one of 24 employees who worked for owner Samuel Spence. Whether Clara is in this photo is unknown, as is the identity of the man standing in the second-floor window -- but it could be Samuel Spence himself.
