(Courtesy of Nashua Historical Society) Men of various ages are seen leisurely riding their bicycles south along Main Street near the intersection of Pearl Street around the turn of the 20th century, shortly before the street was designated East Pearl and West Pearl streets. At the time this photo, which is part of the Nashua Historical Society's Frank Ingalls collection, was taken, there were an estimated 1,200 to 1,500 cyclists in Nashua, most of whom belonged to one or more of the three clubs active at the time: the Nashua Wheel Club, the Riverside Club, and the Nashua Cycle Club. Each had their own clubhouse. They sponsored special "Bicycle Day" events, which included races, parades and trick-riding demonstrations and typically attracted hundreds of riders and thousands of spectators.
