"At the Ready" reads the caption on this photo, taken long ago somewhere in Nashua. Whether it's a staged photo, meaning the firefighters agreed to fire up the boiler in this classic steam pumper and have the two-horse team trot at leas than full speed for the photographer. Catching a glimpse of the passing steamer are a woman, standing at the corner of the house at left, and a boy or young man, who seems to be negotiating a rather uneven sidewalk as he watches the team trot by. A guess is that this was taken around 1890, give or take a few years.
