Greater Nashua Flashback
From The Telegraph files A photographer covering this military parade was standing near the corner of Main and Lock streets looking south down Library Hill, but because there's no date or description, except for "fife corps," and the date Sept. 19, 1953, which is when it appeared in the Nashua Telegraph as part of a series of historic Nashua photos that ran in the paper throughout 1953 – Nashua's centennial celebration year – it's hard to tell what year, or era, this apparent fife corps led this parade through downtown Nashua. At far right is the old Hotel Nashua, which had a couple of different names before a general alarm fire took it to the ground in the 1960s. Visible at center is the Whiting Block, and the building in between the two appears to be on the southwest corner of Main and Thayer Court, where today Soprano's pizza shop is on the first floor. Whatever the purpose of the parade, it was apparently important enough for the boys in the foreground to wear their dress coats and hats. (From The Telegraph files)
