Nashua’s outdoor Dinner and a Movie summer series seeking suggestions
NASHUA – The Downtown Dinner and a Movie series is set to return to the streets of Nashua on July 20, but first, organizers want to know what residents want to see on the big screen.
Max Snelling, of the Greater Nashua Chamber of Commerce, said the chamber is running an online survey with suggested titles for the summer.
“Right now, we plan to have four movies shown on July 20, Aug. 3, Aug. 17 and Aug. 31. Rain dates will be the Thursday after the scheduled date,” Snelling said.
Suggested titles include favorites such as “Fargo,” “Dr. Strangelove” and “Jurassic Park,” but the series will have something special on the menu for the Aug. 17 showing.
“For the Aug. 17 date, we are looking to feature a Bollywood movie. Indian Independence Day takes place on Aug. 15, and the chamber has helped state Rep. Latha Mangipudi host a celebration here in Nashua over the past two years,” Snelling said,
“This year, we are looking to continue that celebration two days later with the viewing of a Bollywood movie and further celebration of our region’s Indian-American community.”
The final showing is scheduled later than usual, on Aug. 31, but Snelling said the move was intentional and meant to attract some of the city’s returning college students to the downtown area.
“We plan to show a more ‘college-focused’ for that night,” he said.
The chamber has partnered with Community Events LLC, to host the Downtown Dinner and a Movie series for the past five years. Community Events teams up with the city to throw other major events, such as the annual Winter Holiday Stroll.
The survey is still open and asks participants to rank the titles they would most like to see this summer from a set list. To access the survey, visit www.nashuamovies.com/schedule-2/help-us-select-the-movies-for-2016 or www.surveymonkey.com/r/8BLW8QH.
Tickets for the Downtown Dinner and Movie events can be purchased online at www.nashuamovies.com/schedule, or the day of the event at the entrance to the dining area on East Pearl Street. However, with limited seating, the events can sell out.
The film series pairs modern and classic movies with a local restaurant partner for a dinner and a movie experience in the heart of Nashua. Typically, East Pearl Street is closed off for and tables, and a large projection screen is temporarily set up for the event.
Patrons can arrive as early as 7 p.m. to order food and drinks, with showtimes starting at dusk. Food and beverage service continue during the movie and end around 10:45 p.m.
This year’s restaurant partners have yet to be announced, but past participants include Stella Blu, Fratello’s and Martha’s Exchange.
