Diesel fuel spill contained at Nashua store
NASHUA – Firefighters contained a roughly 30-gallon diesel fuel spill with booms and absorbent pads after they were called to Lowe’s, 143 Daniel Webster Highway, shortly after 9 a.m. Saturday.
Deputy Nashua Fire Rescue Chief George Walker said crews arrived to find fuel leaking from a flatbed truck that had struck a pole in Lowe’s parking lot.
The impact damaged the driver’s side saddle tank and spawned the leak, Walker said.
Firefighters roped off the area and worked to halt the stream of fuel, which had begun to travel downhill into two connecting sewer grates, he said.
They spread an absorbent known as "Speedi Dri" around the truck and blocked the sewers until the flow had been halted.
Walker said a hazardous materials cleanup firm was contacted, along with the state Department of Environmental Services.
No injuries were reported.
