Johnson’s ‘Islands & Tidelands’ will be on view at the ArtHub; reception is April 4

By Staff | Mar 15, 2019

NASHUA – Daryl D. Johnson is the Artist of the Month for April at the ArtHub Gallery.

Johnson will display original oil paintings at the Nashua Area Artists Association ArtHub Gallery, 30 Temple St., in April, with an opening reception set for 4-6 p.m. on April 4. The reception is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.

Described by Art New England magazine as “…gestural realist landscapes with the overall effect of speeding through layers of lighted space,” Johnson’s oil paintings of coastal scenes and of skies resonate with pulsing waves of brushstrokes and rhythms of color.

Johnson was born in Manhattan, grew up in the suburbs of New York City and moved to New Hampshire in 1988. He has a BFA from Hope College in Holland, Michigan, and studied at the Vermont Studio School and The Art Students League of New York.

Johnson’s paintings have won numerous awards and are in private and corporate collections throughout the world, including Fidelity Investments, Toledo Botanical Garden, Delta Airlines, General Electric and PepsiCo.

“Shifting water patterns and rising transient clouds reflect nature’s energy in my oil paintings,” Johnson said. “The views are familiar, but the subtext is the underlying chi, the sweeping momentum. The earth ‘breathes’ in and out with compositions of uplifting shapes. These oils on canvas celebrate the vibration of the planet.”

Johnson shows her artwork at Sullivan Framing & Fine Art Gallery in Bedford; In Home Design Center in Amesbury, Massachusetts; and at Fry Fine Art in Peterborough. She maintains a studio in Amherst.
