Paint your own pottery at Studio 550 Art Center

By Staff | Aug 6, 2020

MANCHESTER – Studio 550 has opened a Paint-your-own Handmade Pottery Studio! Being a studio that delights in teaching people to create with their hands, this addition to the Studio 550 offerings is a handmade twist on the common paint-a-pot studio. Typically, paint-a-pot studios have ceramic pieces that are factory made and fired at a low-temperature. All the pottery here was made by hand by local NH potters and is fired to a higher temperature – resulting in a more dense and durable finished product.

The selection will change depending on who the makers are, but at the current time, the selection was made by Liz Johnson of Earth Cut Pottery, Rachel Normington of Twist of Fate Pottery, and Monica Leap. There are a variety of sizes and shapes of handmade mugs, bowls, plates, and steins. There are also ornaments, plant pots, dog and cat bowls, and more.

Craft-loving folks young and old are welcome to book a space to paint their own pottery any time the studio is open. Typically, bookings are between 12-8PM on days the studio is open. Enjoy some hands-on fun while supporting both a small business and local artists at the same time!

There is a $7 table fee per person and the cost of whatever item is chosen for painting. There is a rainbow of colors available, examples, and teachers to help coach if needed.

In some specific cases, Studio 550 may be able to welcome kids with clay projects from school that need to be finished because schools went remote in the spring. Email info@550arts.com

with requests and let them know the brand name of the clay and what temperature the clay matures.

Face masks and reservations are required for anyone in the space.
