Nashua Garden a destination eatery

By EMILY VASSAR - The Sunday Telegraph Staff | May 16, 2020

Sports, good food and beer coexist so harmoniously that you don’t often have one without at least another. Our local sports teams are our lifeblood, it seems, and the best way to enjoy them is with a meal and some brews.

The Nashua Garden brings all three of our favorite things together under one roof for us to marvel at and enjoy.

Their sandwiches are like no other. Their beer selection covers a huge array of well-selected options, and their love of all things sports is synonymous with that of a history curator’s passion for artifacts. The walls are covered- literally floor to ceiling- in framed, often autographed photographs of New England sports legends, local championship plaques and team portraits from Nashua High School’s past, and other memorabilia. One couldn’t help in the past taking in as much as possible while sitting in a booth, enjoying a delicious sandwich and sipping a beer. For the time being, we’re limited to ordering takeout from “The Garden”, but that’s okay: as long as they can keep constructing those sandwiches piled high with fresh Boar’s Head meats, crisp veggies, and assorted, quality condiments, we’ll be happy.

Those sandwiches are indeed the MVP’s of The Nashua Garden’s menu, and there are a dozen or so to choose from. They are all named after some of New England’s sports legends and landmarks, and embody some part of their character. Every single one is someone’s favorite, but a few examples are the Big Poppy (Turkey, Pepperoni, & Muenster Cheese, heated on a fresh, fluffy braided roll), The Petrocelli (Blackened Pastrami, Capocollo, & Dill Havarti Cheese on Dark Rye), and The Esposito (Hot Capocollo, Genoa Salami, Mortadella, & Provolone). You can add any topping from “The Lineup” and “The Bench”, select condiments from “The Spread”, and switch out any bread from “The Field”. Vegetarian sandwiches are not to be passed over, as they are built using just as much love and generous portions as their meat-laden counterparts. The Doc Ellis is packed with flavor (Marinated Portobello Mushrooms, Provolone Cheese, & All the Veggies), The Spaceman is full of out-of-this-world ingredients that compliment each other beautifully (Roasted Red Pepper Hummus, Romaine, Tomato, Onion, Peppers, Cucumber, Sprouts, & Olives), and The Garden is full of dependable classics (Romaine, Tomato, Cucumber, Onion, Pickle, Peppers, Roasted Red Peppers, Sprouts, & Olives). You can also create your own masterpiece by utilizing the entire roster. Daily specials like Mac N Cheese, Chili, soup or chowder are often available, so be sure to ask about that. A huge assortment of chips, non-alcoholic beverages, and bakery-fresh cookies are also there to add to any order. And for the duration of the restaurant shutdown, all bottled and canned beers are available to choose from!

The Nashua Garden is a tested and true part of Nashua’s downtown community. They have been serving us only the freshest, most quality food and beer for over 20 years. We rely on them, and they on us. Here’s to another 20!

And please, even though we all are staying home, drink responsibly!
