CUMBERLAND, R.I. (AP) — The body of a Providence man who had least been seen nearly a month ago has been found in a wooded area near a highway, and the death is being investigated as a homicide, authorities said Tuesday.

Hikers found the man’s body in the woods near a rest stop along Interstate 295 in Cumberland on Friday, authorities said.

He was identified as Jose Segura, 50, according to an emailed statement from Providence police.

Segura was last seen on Nov. 3 and was reported missing on Nov. 10, police said.

The state medical examiner determined that the death was a homicide, although the cause of death was not disclosed.

Providence and Rhode Island State Police are conducting a joint investigation and have interviewed the victim’s family and known associates.
