Donchess criticized for exceeding three percent budget limit
NASHUA - Mayor James Donchess withstood a torrent of criticism from residents Frederick Teeboom and William Ferriero for breaching his own increase limit of three percent in the budget for fiscal year 2027. This year’s $501.5 million spending plan represents a $26.6 million increase over last year. Within the total figure, the proposed operating budget of $384.2 million is 6.4 percent higher than last year. “The 6.4 percent is kind of in line with what other communities are facing,” Donchess said during the June 8 public hearing. As he has done in prior years, Donchess sent a memorandum to all department heads asking them to submit budgets that were no more than three percent higher than last year.
