Year in jail for Woods

By Dean Shalhoup - Senior Staff Writer | Nov 20, 2018

NASHUA – Wayne Woods, one of 29 people arrested in Nashua during February’s statewide drug sweep, which netted 151 arrests in all, was sentenced Monday to a year in Valley Street jail.

Woods, 38, of 36 Foxwood Circle in Manchester, entered guilty pleas earlier this month to three felony drug-related charges, one of which accuses him of possession of a controlled drug with intent to distribute, a felony.

In addition to serving the sentence, Woods will be on probation for two years, and agrees as part of the plea deal to participate in the Hillsborough County Substance Abuse Treatment Community for Offenders, otherwise known as SATCO.

He must also participate in any other counseling, education or treatment programs as recommended by corrections officials.

A $350 fine, plus costs, was suspended for two years.

On the other two charges – both felonies that accuse him of possessing heroin, fentanyl and alprazolam – Woods was sentenced to two terms of two to four years each in State Prison, all suspended for five years beginning with his release from jail.

Those charges are concurrent with each other, but consecutive to the stand-committed sentence.

The February drug sweep in which Woods and 150 other people statewide were taken into custody made national headlines for its number of arrests.

The 29 arrests in Nashua were part of the ongoing Operation Granite Shield initiative, police said at the time.

Members of several police divisions and units took part in the sweep, along with representatives of the federal Drug Enforcement Administration and the FBI’s Safe Streets Task Force.

Along with the 151 arrests, officials said, police across the state seized more than $22,000 worth of fentanyl and heroin, 24 weapons and more than $37,000 in cash.
