Motorcyclist severely injured in crash

By Staff | Aug 21, 2015

HUDSON – A 62-year-old Tyngsborough, Mass., man suffered severe injuries Wednesday afternoon when the motorcycle he was riding was hit by a car on Dracut Road near the Tyngsborough, Mass. town line.

Police said David Swierk was headed north on his 2014 Harley Davidson shortly after 5 p.m. and had just crossed the town line into Hudson when a southbound 1998 Audi sedan driven by Michael Michaud, 25, of Nashua, swerved into the northbound lane "for an unknown reason and struck the motorcycle," according to police.

Passersby tried to assist Swierk until the arrival of emergency medical services personnel from both Hudson and Tyngsborough, police and witnesses said. Medics worked to stabilize Swierk while scene commanders called for a medical helicopter, which landed on the grounds of Tyngsborough High School on Norris Road, about a mile from the scene.

Police said the helicopter transported Swierk to Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, but a hospital spokeswoman said Thursday she was unable to locate any information on him.

Michaud was treated at the scene for what appeared to be minor injuries, police said.

Hudson police closed Dracut Road at Sherburne Road, about 100 yards north of the accident scene, while Tyngsborough police closed Long Pond Road at Norris Road, about 50 yards south of the scene. The section remained closed for several hours as Hudson and Tyngsborough police, along with a Massachusetts State Police accident reconstruction team, conducted their investigations.

Swierk’s motorcycle, a Harley Davidson, came to rest against a large rock next to the driveway of 152 Dracut Road, just yards north of the Hudson-Tyngsborough town line.

The Audi, which sustained heavy front-end damage, ended up against a utility pole just off the southbound lane just south of the town line, where Dracut Road becomes Long Pond Road in Tyngsborough.

Police didn’t give Swierk’s street address, but online databases list an address of 16 Long Pond Road, which is roughly a mile from the scene.

Police didn’t say whether any charges may be filed in connection with the crash or what may have prompted the driver of the car to swerve across the road, as police believe. Those matters and others surrounding the crash are part of their investigation, which is ongoing by members of the Hudson Police Department’s Accident Reconstruction Team, police added.
