Nashua police Chief Michael Carignan announces retirement
Michael Carignan, a 28-year veteran of the Nashua Police Department who served as chief the last several years, announced this morning through the Police Commission that he intends to retire from the department to take a position in the private sector.
Carignan, who was among the more vocal opponents of the recent proposal to move the process of appointing Nashua’s police commissioners to City Hall from the State House — which voters rejected in the Nov. 4 election — will be succeeded as chief by current Deputy Chief Kevin Rourke, according to the Police Commission.
A formal acceptance of Carignan’s retirement will take place at a future date, the commission said in a statement.
