NASHUA — A year ago, the city and the Nashua Silver Knights celebrated yet another moment to remember Holman Stadium’s history as being the site for the first integrated professional baseball team in the United States.

That’s when Holman was named an official stop on the Black Heritage Trail.

Friday was yet another day to do just that as Silver Knights owner John Creedon, Jr. and general manager Cam Cook hosted New Hampshire U.S.Senator Maggie Hassan, city Department of Public Works officials, and representatives of the Black Heritage Trail on a tour of the stadium and the places where that history is acknowledged.

The city has the numbers of Nashua Dodgers Roy Campanella and Don Newcombe, as well as the Dodger who broke the Major League color barrier, Jackie Robinson, on the brick wall in left field. That was done by the city and the professional independent league franchise that played from 1998-2008 at Holman, the Nashua Pride. And then in the last 10 years murals were made of Campanella and Newcombe at the stadium entrance.

KNIGHTS AT BROCKTON AFTER FRIDAY OFF

The Silver Knights — in fact the entire Futures League — had a day off yesterday thanks to all the weather issues in the region. Westfield actually postponed their matchup in western Mass. due to the stormy forecast late Thursday afternoon. It will be made up as a doubleheader at Holman next Sunday, June 23, at 12:30 and 3 p.m.because Nashua’s final scheduled visit to Westfield on July 2 is already a doubleheader.

Tonight the Knights visit the Brockton Rox with Colby College’s Derek Woods (1-0, 2.45) set to take the hill for the locals.

BUSINESS IS BOOMING

The Silver Knights may be down in the standings at 5-11 but not in the seats. After nine openings they are actually second in the FCBL in attendance, averaging 1,772 per game in announced paid attendance. Vermont, as expected is tops with 2,593 fans per game after eight dates. Brockton actually is last but have only had four home games, averaging 779.

FATHER’S DAY

Nashua’s next home game is Sunday at 3 p.m. As part of the Father’s Day festivities, neckties will be given away at the gate while after the game the fans will have their annual Father-Son/Daughter catch on the field.
