PLAYER OF THE YEAR

BRENDAN GRAHAM, ALVIRNE

The senior center nearly got the Broncos into the tournament on his own as he averged 20.3 points per game, 16.2 rebounds per game, 5.4 blocks per game, 3.3 steals, and had a 62.8 field goal percentage.

He was a Second Team All-Stater and also All-State Defensive Team player. Alas, Graham’s organized basketball days are over as he has been recruited to UNH to play football in the fall.

Stapelfeld, a senior, was the Division II All-State Player of the Year, averaging 21.6 points a game as well as 8.1 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game. She scored 20 or more points in 17 of the Cavaliers’ 22 games, finsihed with a career of 1,108 points.

Stapelfeld will play at St. Joseph’s of Maine next year.

Paquette led the Cardinals in every statistical category and virtually willed the team down the stretch in the fourth quarter to the Division I championship over Bedford.

She scored 30 in the team’s semifinal win over Pinkerton.

Her season numbers: Led BG in points (13 a game), rebounds (7.5 per game), assists (4.5 per game), steals (three per game) and took 11 charges. She was a First Team Divison I All-Stater, selected to the NHSportspage NH underclassmen all star team and was a finalist for NH Gatorade Player of the Year.

JULIE McLAUGHLIN,

FORWARD, BISHOP GUERTIN

McLaughlin was the leader of the Cardinals, who nearly made it back to the finals thanks in part to her 38 goals and 26 assists during the regular season and four goals and three assists in two playoff games for a total of 42-29-71 points.

The senior was considered a huge leader both on and off the ice.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE-DERRYFIELD

Vachon, a senior forward, was a go-to goal scorer for the Warriors, finishing the season with 29 goals and seven assists and helping HBDS to the Division III semifinals, the program’s second straight deep run into the tournament.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE

The Cavaliers senior was the Divsion II and Meet of Champions winner at 152 pounds, and was named named Outstanding Wrestler at both meets.

He finishes his high schoool career as a three-time Division II champion and 98 career wins.

BISHOP GUERTIN

Griffin was steady for the Cardnals in the Division I state meet, as state champion in the 200 IM and second in the 100 Breaststroke while helping the Cards get points in other areas as well.

GIRLS SWIMMER OF THE YEAR

CAMBRIA JEWETT,

HOLLIS BROOOKLINE

The Cavaliers swimmer won the 100 backstroke and was third in the 200 free to help lead HB to the Division II state title.

She also was on the championship 200 medley relay team, and the third place 400 free relay. Plus, Jewett holds six school records.

Jaques had the top average in the state throughout the winter going into the state individual tournament with a 213 average. It was a repeat of the success he had shown the previous season as he is our top bowler in the area for the second straight year.

The Rathbone tandem was clearly the best in the area this winter.

They were both in the top 10 in the Meet of Champions Giant Slalom and top 15 in the Slalom, and the top local finishers in the event overall.

The duo was also one-two in the Giant Slalom and two-three in the Slalom in the Division I Boys Meet to help the Cardinals to a second-place finish.

LYLA KIMBALL,

SOUHEGAN

Kimball was the top local finisher in the Meet of Champions, taking 11th in the Giant Slalom and 10th in the Slalom.

In the Division II championship meet, she was fourth in both the Slalom and Giant Slalom, helping the Sabers to a third- place finish.

MERRIMACK

Horton was the NHIAA State Meet champion with an All-Around score of 36.050, highlighted by her win in the parallel bars plus her tie for third on vault and fourth on floor.
