RUTLAND, Vt. — The Rivier men’s hockey team closed out the Terry Moran Invitational with a 5-4 loss to Arcadia Saturday in overtime.

The overtime period came down to the final seven seconds when the Knights were able to finish the game on a Haralds Jirgens game-winner.

Period one ended in a draw, with both teams scoring one goal each. Donnie Feldman got the scoring going for Arcadia just 22 seconds in. Four minutes later, the Raiders knotted it up at one all on another Milan Breczko (Klasterec, CZR) goal.

The second period saw Rivier take a 3-2 lead going into the final period. The second opened with a power play goal from Tyler Duderstadt (Sewickley, PA) just 27 seconds in. Seven minutes later, the Raiders would tack on one more from Jon Tavella (E. Longmeadow, MA). The Knights would decrease their two-goal deficit at the 14-minute mark in the period on a Brett Schneider goal.

Rivier entered the third period with a 3-2 lead but had been drastically outshot so far throughout the contest. This eventually led to a multiple goal period for Arcadia in the third. They tied it up at three all 1:46 into the third. James Spaargaren scored the equalizer. At 11:41, the Raiders gave up a short-handed goal to Sam Whitehouse to fall behind for the first time since the first period 4-3.

The Raiders weren’t done. However, just three minutes later, they were able to convert on another power play opportunity. Breczko would score the game- tying goal for his second of the game to send it into overtime.

In net for the Raiders, Andrew LoRusso (Peabody, Mass.) did all he could to keep them in the contest stopping 33 of 38 shots.

Rivier will be back in action this Friday when Anna Maria makes the trip to Conway Arena for a 7 p.m. game.
