Wildcats can’t get offense going in 2-0 loss to Providence

DURHAM – Chase Yoder and Kohen Olischefski each posted a goal for the Friars as the University of New Hampshire men’s hockey team fell to No. 12 Providence, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon at the Whittemore Center.

The Wildcats fell to 2-3-0 (0-1-0 HEA) and the Friars improved to 5-2-0 (2-0-0 HEA).

Providence opened the scoring at 15:44 into the game after Jamie Engelbert sent a pass to Yoder, who roofed the backhand past senior goalie Mike Robinson of Bedford (22 saves) from just outside the crease. Cam McDonald also tallied an assist on the goal.

The Friars extended their lead to 2-0 at 16:17 of the second period when Olischefski finished home a shot from the left circle as the puck went just under the bar. Brett Berard and Uula Ruikka posted assists on the goal.

The third period went scoreless as Providence secured the win.

UNH travels to Providence on Friday, Oct. 29 for a 7 p.m. contest at Schneider Arena on NESN+. The two teams will then return to the Whittemore Center on Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. on College SportsLive.
