By Tom King - Staff Writer | Apr 12, 2021

NASHUA — It’s been a tough start to the season for the Rivier University baseball team.

The Raiders dropped two doubleheaders over the weekend, both to Norwich, the second one coming Sunday at an empty Holman Stadium by 7-0 and 10-1 scores.

In the four games over the weekend, the Raiders wee outscored by a total of 41-5.

No spectators, by Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) rule, were allowed at the game but several fans watched from the Holman parking lot down the left field line, most of them from Norwich.

In the first game, Brandon Kelly tossed four innings and Merrimack’s Jake Mainey three for the Raiders. Norwich’s offense was paced by two RBIs each by Hayden Roberge and Nick Beavin, while Matt Infraffia was the story on the mound for the Cadets. He tossed a complete game shutout, striking out nine.

In the nightcap, Devin Albino tossed 6.1 innings, striking out three for the Raiders in taking the loss. P.J. Morales got the win, going six innings, striking out four.

The problem for the Raiders was Jakob Foster, who had three hits and four RBIs.

The Raiders (0-4) will visit St. Joseph’s of Maine next Saturday for a doubleheader, time to be announced.
